Ingredients Used in the Chocolate Coconut Almond Tea Latte

Market Chai Tea: Within this recipe, we used Market Chai Tea, a blend of black tea, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and other spices, giving the latte a warm and spicy flavor. We purchased our Market Chai Loose Leaf Tea from the local farmers market.

If you cannot access Market Chai Tea, you can opt for a similar tea, such as Irish Breakfast Tea, which has a robust and rich flavor, making it a good substitute. But do keep in mind that the taste of the latte may vary slightly with a different type of tea.

Water: Water is an essential ingredient in making tea, as it is the base to steep the tea leaves and infuse the flavor and aroma into the drink.

In this recipe, we add 2 cups of water to a teapot and 3 tsp of Market Chai Tea to a tea infuser before inserting it into the Teapot.

The Teapot is then placed on the stove over medium heat for 3-5 minutes until the water is hot. The heat allows the tea to steep in the water, releasing its flavor and aroma, resulting in a delicious and flavorful tea base for the latte.

Coconut Milk: Coconut is one of its main ingredients; we decided to use coconut milk in this recipe to enhance the flavor and give it a creamy and rich texture.

Coconut milk is made from the flesh of mature coconuts and has a sweet and nutty flavor that complements the spices in the Market Chai Tea.

It is also an excellent alternative to dairy milk for those who are lactose intolerant or vegan. The use of coconut milk in this recipe not only adds to the flavor but also enhances the overall health benefits of the drink.

Note: There are various types of coconut milk, and they taste vastly different depending on the type you get. We prepare the Tea Latte using the original coconut milk sold at Aldi’s.

Some coconut milk will come unsweetened, in a can, or condensed. Make sure to try the coconut milk before adding it to the recipe. If you don’t like how it tastes stand-alone, you likely will not like it when added to the tea latte.

Dark Chocolate Almond Milk: Within the Chocolate Coconut Almond Tea Latte, we chose to use Dark Chocolate Almond Milk to give it a rich and decadent flavor of almond and chocolate.

Dark Chocolate Almond Milk has a creamy texture and a deep chocolate flavor that complements the spicy notes of the Market Chai Tea.

However, if you cannot access Dark Chocolate Almond Milk, you can use Almond Milk and Cocoa Powder as substitutes. Mix the almond milk with cocoa powder for a similar flavor and texture. Keep in mind that the taste may vary slightly from store-bought.

Whip Cream: Whipped cream in a tea latte adds a visually appealing touch to the beverage and enhances its flavor profile. When whipped cream melts into the drink, it lends a smooth and creamy texture to the tea, providing a rich and indulgent taste that complements the tea’s earthy and slightly bitter notes.

Honey: Honey is a great natural alternative to sweetened tea. It adds a sweet taste to your tea and has many health benefits.

Honey is rich in antioxidants and has antibacterial properties, which can help boost your immune system and fight off infections. It also contains enzymes that aid digestion and can soothe a sore throat.

Chocolate Chips: Chocolate chips are a delicious addition to many recipes, but they may only partially melt when added to a hot drink like tea or coffee.

When adding chocolate chips to hot beverages like tea or coffee, they tend to sink to the bottom of the cup and can leave behind chunks of chocolate at the bottom.

Although chocolate chips are visually appealing and flavorful, if you want a smoother and more consistent texture, try grating the chocolate and adding it to your drink instead.

Grating chocolate will allow it to dissolve more quickly, resulting in a rich, decadent flavor throughout your drink. This method is beneficial if you want to create a creamy and velvety texture in your drink.

So, the next time you make tea, you can use grated chocolate or chocolate chips to top your tea latte.

Common Questions:

What is a Tea Latte?

If you’re a coffee latte fan, consider trying tea lattes. They’re a soothing and delicious beverage made by infusing tea leaves in hot water and combining the brewed tea with steamed milk to create a creamy and frothy texture, followed by whipped cream and various toppings.

One of the best things about tea lattes is that they’re highly customizable. You can create your tea latte version with your favorite tea leaves, sweeteners, and flavorings.

Can I make this an Iced Tea Latte?

You can turn this or any other recipe into an iced tea latte. To make an iced tea latte, seep the tea as usual.

Then, remove the tea leaves or bags and allow the drink to sit on the counter until it hits room temperature, usually around 30 minutes.

Once the tea is at room temperature, you can add the tea to a glass full of ice and then follow with frothed milk, whipped cream, and the toppings of your choice.

Pro Tip: It’s best not to steep tea leaves overnight to prevent a bitter taste.

What is in Market Chai Tea?

Market Chai Tea contains hints of Vanilla, Orange, and Cinnamon flavorings blended with Assam black tea and Cardamom, Cinnamon, Cloves, Coriander, Ginger, Nutmeg, and Orange Peel.

What is an excellent substitute for Market Chai Tea?

If you do not have Market Chai Tea, a great substitute is plain Chai Tea. Another great substitute for black tea is Irish Breakfast Tea.
