About Hemmed-in Hollow Trail

Hemmed-in Hollow Trail is a 5.5-mile hike that takes approximately 4.5 hours. The trail is an in-and-out trail that is open year-round. Dogs are not allowed on this trail.

Due to the elevation of 1,404 feet, this hiking trail is considered difficult. 

It is a popular trail causing a worn pathway that makes the path easy to follow. Although the route is mostly easy to follow with a clear pathway, there are a few overgrown sections. 

Furthermore, it has been said the last part of the path is overgrown.

What to Expect at Hemmed-in Hollow Trail

Many people hike the Hemmed-in Hollow Trail to see the 200-foot waterfall

However, a trickle may only be left if you go during the summertime. 

Therefore, it is best to hike this trail after heavy rainfall or reoccurring rain. It will allow for a heavy-flowing waterfall for you to enjoy. 

Heavy rain is expected during early spring and fall.

The hike is considered to be challenging, especially coming back. The walk-in is steep, making it a strenuous hike to come back. 

The hike takes approximately 4-5 hours. With the long walk, you will want to bring plenty of water! You should get triple the amount of water you need to be on the safe side.

Since the trail features many rock steps and is considered rocky, you will want to wear good hiking shoes.

The Hemmed-in Hollow Trail offers fantastic views the whole way. It is just a gorgeous hike in general

Getting to Hemmed-in Hollow Trail

Take Highway 43 two Compton, then run south on a gravel country road after a Buffalo National River Sign. Follow the road until you see signs for Compton Trailhead.

Important Information to Know Before You Go

Since the hike is intense, it is not recommended for young children or anyone who cannot physically handle intense exertion. The trail can be slippery right after rainfall.
