Hike Whitaker Point in Arkansas

Looking for a weekend away where you can spend the days outdoors with Mother Nature? Just you, family, friends, and the great outdoors? Then look no further; Kingston, Arkansas, is your destination. You might be thinking, what is in Kingston, Arkansas? Whitaker Point, one of the most beautiful places in Arkansas!

Whitaker Point is a trail that takes you to Hawksbill Craig, where you stand on a large rock formation to see incredible scenic views. You will experience rolling hills covered in trees as far as the eye can see. It’s a stunning sight that brings hikers from all over the nation to view it.

Everything You Need to Know Before You Go:

Getting To Whitaker Point

If you have never been to Whitaker Point Trail, you may want to Google directions before coming, as it can be tricky. Make sure you take route 16 to Cave Mount Road. It’s been noted that you may have difficulty getting to the trail if you take County Road 3605.

Before getting to the trailhead, the gravel road is up a mountain with steep drop-offs. If you are afraid of heights, close your eyes, especially when a car passes! The ride to the trailhead is lengthy, and along the way, you pass several houses as you etch closer to the trail.

Since the trail is heavily trafficked means that trailhead parking fills up quickly. Be sure to arrive early to get a spot. During peak hours and seasons, people will park on the side of the road. Once you are parked, finding the trailhead may be challenging since it needs to be better marked. Look for a large rock that sits in front of the trail.

The Trail

Once on the trail, you will start by going down a hill allowing for an easy start. The course is around 1.4 miles in and out, making it approximately 3 miles. As you head closer to the infamous cliff, you will see other similar cliffs that are miniature, making it perfect for several photo ops along the way!

Overall the trail is considered an intermediate hike that is relatively easy for most people. The pathway is heavily trafficked, allowing the continual flow of visitors that has caused the formation of a well-defined dirt path. In addition to the dirt path, orange triangles help guide you throughout the trail.

Another significant aspect of Whitaker Point Trail is dogs are allowed on a leash! So bring your furry friend and go out to check out this fantastic trail with spectacular views!

Quick Overview:

  • The trail itself is relatively easy to hike, being rated intermediate.
  • The length of the path is approximately 3 miles in total (1.4 miles each way)
  • The trail is in and out.
  • The trails are easily marked with orange triangles (although some reviewers have claimed to have difficulty finding the markers)
