Top Reasons Potosi is Missouri's Hidden Gem

Potosi may be the hidden gem of Missouri. There is much to do here, making it the perfect day or weekend getaway. If you have never been and love the countryside, you must add this to your list of places to visit.

So what makes Potosi, Missouri, so great?

Reason #1: Trout Lodge

Missouri's Hidden Gem Potosi Missouri so make sure to visit Visit Potosi Missouri

Well, for one, you have the Trout Lodge. This action-packed facility makes it the perfect getaway, especially during summer. The Trout Lodge features a swimming beach with zero-depth entry, sand, and clear water. Yes, that’s right, CLEAR WATERS*. Although the waters are shallow, it is still remarkable that you can see the fish swimming on the bottom of the lake while you are standing there.

Besides having a swimming beach, you can also visit the boathouse and rent out one of the available boats. The rentals (included with admission to Trout Lodge) are Kayaks, Canoes, Sailboats, Stand Up Paddle Boards, and Paddle Boats.

It’s a great way if you (are your children) have never attempted riding any of these watercraft to give it a try. The best part is the staff at Trout Lodge are available to assist you with the boat you choose to rent, even providing detailed instructions on how to use each one.

Another great benefit of the YMCA Trout Lodge is that you can rent each boat for as long as possible and switch them out as you please. You can start with a Kayak and then switch to a Sailboat later. All you have to do is sign in and out of the boat you are using.

There is still so much more that you can do at Trout Lodge in addition to renting various boats and swimming in the lake. The activities available are listed below.

However, not all activities may be available when you visit. Please check the YMCA Trout Lodges website for a complete list of activities available the day you plan to visit. Please note activity schedules are listed two weeks in advance. [Read also: Trout Lodge: The Hidden Gem of Saint Louis]

Reason #2: Starlite Drive-in

Although the Starlite Drive-in isn’t technically in Potosi, Missouri, it is close enough. Starlite Drive-in is one of the best drive-in movie theaters you will ever visit. Being in the country gives you a drive-in movie experience without the city lights. If you look into the sky while watching the movies, you can see a sky full of stars (as long as it isn’t cloudy).

Being from the city and seeing stars while watching a movie adds HUGE points to my book! We have been here several times within the last few years and have never experienced another drive-in theater like it.

Here are a few tips if you have never been. Small cars park up front, and larger cars (SUVs & Trucks) park in the back. Therefore, everyone will have the ability to see the screen and watch the movie without interruptions.

Also, they have a radio station from which you can listen to the movie. If you have a battery-powered FM radio at home, grab it, it will save you from having to keep your car running.

Reason #3: Washington State Park

Washington State Park is a short drive from Potosi, Missouri, with so much to offer. The park provides a variety of hiking trails, with several paths leading to gorgeous scenic views.

In addition to hiking trails, the park also offers a swimming pool from Memorial Day through Labor Day Weekend. The admission to the pool does cost. However, it is worth it if you are looking for a family fun day at Washington State Park. The pool has lifeguards and a slide. Allowing you to feel comfortable while your kid plays freely in the pool.

Another significant aspect of the park is the Big River that runs through the park allowing for perfect swimming, fishing, and boating destination. In fact, the park offers boat rentals enabling you to rent canoes, kayaks, rafting, and tubes for float trips. You can float down the river on either a three to seven-mile trip.

Reason #4: Hughes Mountain Natural Area

Hughes Mountain Natural Area features the Devil’s Honeycomb Trail, which is a 1.6-mile trail that consists of glades, savannas, and forests. The mountain is a must-visit attraction because it features rocks made from ancient volcanoes. Furthermore, you will experience unusual hexagon structures as you climb the mountain.

The in-and-out trail is considered easy to hike and offers fantastic views! If you visit during the spring, you will experience wildflowers throughout, making the hike even more special.

If you are looking for a unique experience, pack a lunch, bring a blanket, and have a picnic at the top. The scenic views of the Ozarks and how peaceful the top of the mountain makes it the perfect picnic destination.

Reasons #5: Edg-Cliff Vineyard, Winery & Brewery

Are you looking to relax? Then you are in luck. Edge-Clif Vineyard, Winery & Brewery is a great place to spend the evening relaxing while enjoying great company!

The winery offers a variety of wines and beers, with red and white wines ranging from dry, semi-sweet to sweet. Furthermore, they offer several of their award-winning wines. If you have never been, then opt in for the wine tasting! It’s a great way to taste several of their different wines until you find your forever favorite.

If you are not an avid wine drinker, then you are lucky. Edge-Cliff also brews its own beer with several different options for you to choose from. This is a perfect way to cater to all individuals’ needs at your party. So pack a picnic and come out to Edge-Clif Vineyard, Winery & Brewery.

Reasons #6: Fourche Valley Golf Club

If your family is into golfing, you must check out the Fourche Valley Golf Club while visiting Potosi, Missouri. The golf club offers pristine greens allowing for a lovely experience. Furthermore, the course is excellent for all skill levels. Another significant aspect is the golf course is reasonably priced. Golf cart rentals are included with the rate you pay to play.

In addition to the golf course, they also offer a driving range. You can purchase a bucket of balls for a low cost. This is a great way to practice your swing before hitting the course, especially if it’s been a while since you played.

While visiting Fourche Valley Golf Club, stop by the Mini Restaurant & Bar on the premise for some food and drinks. Food includes burgers, hot dogs, and bison burgers, among others.

Book your 9-holes or 18-holes of golf today! Although there are only 9 holes, you can still play 18 golf.

Reason #7: Reed's Relics

Reed’s Relic is a quick stop but unique in many ways. Being an antique store, you can see so many old-fashioned items. From strange carved statues to books and cups you remember as a child.

The shop is clean and friendly and features unique decor that will draw your attention from the outside.

The best part is the ice cream parlor that sits up front. Offering milkshakes, and hand-dipped scoops, among many other treats. Stop by, grab some ice cream, and check out the antiques inside.
