You must register the day you plan on using the trial. The visitor center opens at 8:00 am every day. While at the visitor center, make sure you get a trail map.

What to Expect on Butterfield Equestrian Trail

The trail starts with a reliable water source for your horse. The path is noted to be in rough condition, and it has been said the path takes work to follow. The creek and waterfall have been known to dry out during the warmer, more humid months of the year. Also, the trails has ticks and poison ivy. Make sure to bring bug spray and wear long pants. With that said, don’t let this deter you from going. It is well worth the experience.

The trail offers many scenic views along the way. During spring or after heavy rainfall, you can experience Butterfield Falls. The pathways also feature wildflowers, so if you come when they bloom, they will add to your overall experience.

Horse Camp:

There is a horse camp nearby the park. It doesn’t offer corrals or stables, but guests are welcome to bring their portable paddock. For more information on the Horse Camp, contact Devil’s Den State Park Visitor Center at (479) 761-3325.
