Louisville, Kentucky

Louisville, Kentucky, is a fun getaway destination. 

The town hosts the nationally known Kentucky Derby every year. 

Making this a great time to visit and see the horses race live. While here, stop by the Kentucky Derby Museum to learn some interesting facts!

Another great attraction in Louisville, Kentucky, is the Louisville Mega Cavern which has an underground zipline course. This should be added to your bucket list if it isn’t already.

Another great attraction around Kentucky is the Kentucky Kingdom, an amusement and water park. 

Then there is the Louisville Zoo which features endangered animals—a great way to see rare wildlife up close. 

If you are feeling adventurous, walk from Kentucky to Indiana on the Big Four Bridge.

Savannah, Georgia

Savannah, Georgia, made our list of Top Weekend Getaways in the South because of its beauty and the many attractions. 

Savannah, Georgia, has an old elegance charm with beautiful architectural buildings ranging from Greek, Revival, and Georgian. 

If architectural structures and old-time buildings are interesting, tour one of Savannah, Georgia’s many old homes. 

Homes to tour include Harper-Fowlkes House, Davenport House, and the Flanery O’Connor Childhood Home. 

These. are just a few of the various homes you can tour in Savannah, Georgia.

Another great attraction nearby is Tybee Island, which features shopping, dining, and outdoor activities, including several beaches. 

The island has five different beaches to visit. These beaches are North Beach, Mid Beach, South Beach, Back River, and Little Tybee.

Other great outdoor attractions include boating and exploring Skidaway Island State Park and Fort Pulaski National Monument. 

Both offer unforgettable experiences. These are just a few attractions Savannah, Georgia, has to offer.

Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston, South Carolina, is a picturesque town with an unforgettable experience. 

The downtown features cobblestone streets and horse-drawn carriages with a French Quarter-style backdrop, making it look like a town out of a fairytale.

Although a picturesque town is not all that Charleston, South Carolina, has to offer, the city features fun for the entire family. 

The Charleston Museum allows the ability to view dinosaur skeletons.

If seeing a variety of fish is more your style, then check out the South Carolina Aquarium. 

If you are looking for some good old fun, then Frankies Fun Park, where the whole family can bowl, ride go-karts, and eat pizza.

Between the unique architectural style and many other attractions, it is no surprise that it made our list of the Top Weekend Getaways in the South.

Annapolis, Maryland

Another lovely town is Annapolis, Maryland. This quant made our list of the Top Weekend Getaways in the South for its beauty. 

This historic district is excellent for seeing 18th-century buildings. The colonial architectural design gives this town a charming aspect. 

In addition to a charming architect, the town holds much history, making it the perfect destination for history buffs.

Fun Fact: Annapolis, Maryland, the capital of Maryland, was the country’s capital when the Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783. 

Some great places to learn about the city and state’s history are the: Maryland Statehouse, The U.S. Naval Academy Museum, and the Annapolis Tours by Watermark. 

These are all great resources for gaining more information on the history and impact this city had on our great nation. 

If family entertainment is more your style, then Pirate Adventures on the Chesapeake may be what you are looking for. This interactive experience on a boat will entertain the whole family. 

For those more adventurous, then Beverly Triton Nature Park may be of interest. Here you can go on a treetop adventure. A treetop adventure is a great way to make memories with family and friends while having a good time. 

Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C., is our nation’s capital, making it a must-visit destination. 

Washington is full of so much history. The vast number of museums and historical sites are open to the public allowing the ability to learn about our country.

Some educational places in Washington, D.C., are the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Natural Air and Space Museum. Visiting the White House should be on your list of places to see in Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C. offers a variety of attractions in addition to learning about our nation’s history; this includes attractions such as the Capital Wheel. 

The spinning Ferris wheel gives impressive views from 180 feet in the air of the Potomac River. Another great attraction is the ARTECHOUSE DC allowing you to emerge into art with technology-based art exhibits. 

However, one of the most fantastic attractions is the Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens, which features a beautiful garden which is especially great for visiting during the Lotus & Water Lily Festival.
